Description

Prevent recurrent canine ear infections, clear stubborn wax buildup, and optimize the delivery of prescription ear medications with Virbac Epiotic Ear Cleanser, available online at VetMitra. Canines and felines possess a deep, "L-shaped" ear canal featuring a steep vertical canal that turns sharply into a horizontal canal leading to the tympanic membrane (eardrum). Because this anatomical structure traps humidity, shed squames, and natural ceruminous secretions, warm and damp ear canals quickly become breeding grounds for opportunistic yeast (Malassezia pachydermatis) and bacteria (Staphylococcus, Pseudomonas). Breeds with pendulous or heavy floppy ears (Labradors, Golden Retrievers, Cocker Spaniels, Beagles, Pugs, and floppy-eared Indies) are particularly susceptible to recurrent otitis externa. Virbac Epiotic provides a 4-in-1 clinical hygiene solution to interrupt the cycle of ear inflammation: Potent Ceruminolytic & Keratolytic Action (Salicylic Acid 0.2% w/v): As a specialized beta-hydroxy acid, salicylic acid breaks down the complex lipid bonds cementing thick, rancid cerumen (earwax) and cellular squames to canal walls. It softens and demulsifies heavy wax plugs that simple saline or water flushes cannot loosen. Canal Drying & Astringent Defense: Trapped moisture from frequent bathing or swimming softens the delicate lining of the ear canal and promotes microbial proliferation. Salicylic acid acts as an astringent to dry the canal surface without causing chemical burns or epidermal flaking. Broad-Spectrum Antiseptic & Biofilm Control (Phenoxyethanol 0.3% w/v): Provides broad antimicrobial protection against Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus, Streptococcus) and Gram-negative pathogens (Pseudomonas, Proteus, E. coli), actively reducing the baseline bacterial and fungal bioburden with every cleaning. Odor Neutralization & Deodorizing Action: Neutralizes rancid fatty-acid odors generated by decomposing yeast and bacteria in chronically moist, "grey-zone" ears, keeping the ear flap clean and fresh. Essential Pre-Medication Preparation: Applying therapeutic ear drops (such as antibiotics, antifungals, or corticosteroids like Virbac Easotic) into an ear canal coated in thick wax prevents the active ingredients from reaching the infected epithelium. Cleaning with Epiotic 5 to 10 minutes prior ensures the canal is clear for optimal pharmaceutical contact. Non-Stinging, pH-Balanced Formulation: Calibrated to a physiological neutral pH (5.5–6.5), ensuring that routine cleaning remains gentle and comfortable without stinging tender, hyper-reactive ear tissue.
